Terminology

Alphabetically sorted overview of rooms, products, suppliers, material, et cetera that are referenced in this document. 

Associations

These are the associations that have signed the user contract with Hubble. These associations make use of Hubble in the evening hours and make sure that there are enough association bartenders present. The members of these associations receive a discount on most beverages, can borrow equipement from Hubble and, when possible, the association receives a bonus. 

Bar

The entire room Luna 0.333, located in front of the kitchen in Hubble.

Bartender

A person that fills in an associations bartending shift in Hubble. Bartenders get compensation for their shift.

Board

Context specific term. This could refer to the Hubble Board, Meteor board, an association’s board, the TU/e Executive Board, Hubble Supervisory board, etc.

Eendje

The original eendje is 11 beer for the price of 10. It is however possible to get this for all drinks. You can get 11 bottles of coca cola and pay for 10, but that does not happen very often.

Guests

People that come visit Hubble to get a drink or have food. We may never call them a ´customer´.

Harry

See SVH. The name Harry is a tribute to previous TU/e Executive Board member Harry Roumen, who supported Hubble during its setup.

Hubble

Hubble is the name for the cafe situated on the ground floor of Luna de Plint. Hubble includes the bar, kitchen, storage rooms and the terrace in the front of Luna.

Hubble Board

The Hubble Board takes care of the day to day operations of Hubble among which the operational management, coordinating of the manager and the personnel, but is mostly involved in the community and volunteers that, like Hubble board, run the bar voluntarily. All Board Members of Hubble have an SVH certificate (social hygiene). This means that they are registered on the permit and are allowed to run the bar independently.

Ice Draft

A mobile beer tap. Kegs are connected to this tap, it is cooled with ice in the space below the drain plate. 

Kitchen

The entire room Luna 0.332, located behind the bar.

Meteor

Meteor is the name for the cafe situated on the ground floor of Haven. Meteor includes the bar, kitchen, storage rooms and the terrace in the front of Haven.

Own use (eigen gebruik)

Own usage, or ‘eigen verbruik’, is a cash register option to reduce an items price to €0 for own usage.

Staff

Personnel that works in Hubble and Meteor for a regular salary. They keep Hubble open on the weekdays from 11:00 to 20:00 and on Saturdays from 15:00 until 20:00 and do the transfer when volunteers are taking over at 20:00 on weekdays.

Storage

The entire room Luna 0.395, located behind the kitchen. This room includes a small amount of beverage supply with the accompanying deposit (statiegeld), as well as the kitchen stock, cutlery and similar items.

Storage -1

The entire room Luna -1.227. This room contains Hubble’s beverage supply. Here you can find the beer tanks, kegs and all other beverage supply. This room is only entered when staff is restocking the storage upstairs, when the tank needs to be changed or when the SVH ran out of strong liquor in the bar.

SVH

Also called Harry, an SVH is a bartender with an SVH certificate who is also listed on Hubble’s alcohol permit. They formally carry responsibility for the entire bar during their shifts.

Management

The management of Hubble consists of the manager, assistent manager and the Hubble board. 

Manager

The person who manages day to day operations of Hubble and overall responsible for staff operations. This position is currently held by Josselyn van Stokkum

Technical Storage

The entire room Luna 0.T33. This room can be reached from the storage behind the kitchen. Here various properties of the bar can be found such as glasses, but also the fuse box and the ventilation.

Terrace

Hubble’s terrace is the tiled plot in front of Luna. The official terrace of Hubble spans from the red entrance door to the main entrances of the building.

Quackje

A quackje is similar to an eendje, but for shot glasses. Also see: eendje.
